Student Field Research Program

Canadian students document observable conditions on park routes using a common assessment guide. Volunteers record facts and photos — they do not certify accessibility or decide final ratings.

Responsibilities

  • Walk or roll assigned routes safely
  • Measure widths, slopes and surfaces
  • Photograph entrances, steps, washrooms, parking
  • Record observations, not opinions

Photo guidance

  • Include a reference object for scale
  • Note the date and route segment
  • Avoid identifiable faces
  • Capture both directions of a slope

Example assessment record

Segment
North entrance → lake viewpoint (illustrative)
Surface
Asphalt, minor cracking
Max slope
Measured 6% over 12 m
Width
